Have you ever heard of any worlds where time supposedly follows a fixed path, to the point that people who deviate from their "destinies" in any way always die somehow?

Just the one. Well, two, technically, though apparently it's more complicated than that. Quite recently, as a matter of fact.

Yes.

Are you aware of anything that they could do to change things without dying?

Not off the top of my head, no... before this, I've never heard of a universe, any universe, where the entire timeline's been one huge fixed event. It just doesn't fit my world view, more than that, it doesn't fit everything that I've ever understood about time. All those fixed points and flux points, I can feel them all if I let myself, it's instinct, and imagining a universe where it's all fixed, it's..... Without at least going there myself first to get a real feel for the timestream, I wouldn't want to risk trying interfering with something like that.

It's a long shot - a very long shot, mind you, so don't get your hopes up - but the only thing I could think of that could possibly change things without causing more harm than help is if the community was involved. It's a point of chaos that manages to influence that world outside of its predestined events and even throw Doc Scratch for a loop. If there are any answers to be had, I'd say we'd find them there, but it's all too tricky to say anything for certain.

I'm obviously not as experienced as you, but I've never heard anything like it either, and it doesn't make sense. I'm not even sure if I believe it. We might have destinies and thinks that we're meant to do, but that's not the same thing as having something that you have to do. It's like they're all saying that no one on that world has any free will. And I agree with you; interfering could just make things worse-- which is one reason why I don't like Kefka's plan. I only want to involve myself directly if that involvement is wanted. But if you went to the Veil, and tried to figure out their "timesteam", that wouldn't really be involving yourself. It'd just be looking for information.

My hopes are already up by default, because they were never down.

The thing about fixed timelines is that it's not so much a matter of having no free will as that a lot of the time, if something goes wrong, the timeline itself will try and compensate and fix it somehow. 'Course, as with all fixed events it all depends on your perspective... anyway. You're absolutely right, if I made an excuse to pop over there for a visit sometime I could get some more information, have a bit of a poke around inside the rest of the game at large if I can, maybe.

Kefka's a... bit of a strange one, isn't he? Not quite sure what to think of that one. Either way, I agree, barging in there the way he wants to is just reckless, and while I'm all for reckless, I make exceptions where timelines and lives hang in the balance.

No, me neither... there's something decidedly off about him. Still, nevermind that, to answer your question it wouldn't take long at all, a few minutes really. Factoring in the different worlds and varying flows of time it might end up taking about an hour tops just to be completely sure, but that's just giving myself a generous window to pick things up in.
